Overview
The bustling town centre contains numerous shops, coffee shops,
restaurants, two supermarkets, Scotland’s oldest working cinema,
Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia distilleries, harbour and
promenade.
Smith Drive is in an ideal location for exploring central and
southern Kintyre with a wealth of activities on the doorstep. For
golfers the championship course at Machrihanish is 5 miles to the
West on the Atlantic coast, and the challenging courses at Dunaverty
and Carradale within easy reach.
Outdoor activities abound with various hill walking routes,
including the recently opened Kintyre Trail which can be sub-divided
into daily sections, surfing & wind surfing at Machrihanish and
Westport, and sailing & boat trips from the harbour. Davaar island,
and the cave painting of the crucifix, is accessible via the dhorlin
(shingle bank) at low water. Boat trips to the island of Sanda, &
the Byron Darnton Inn provide an ideal day excursion.
The area is blessed with numerous sandy beaches including
Machrihanish, Westport, Dunaverty, Carskey and Peninver. There are
also numerous smaller beaches and coves located within easy driving
distance of Campbeltown, ideal for day or half-day excursions.
